What is Adult Day Care?

A type of senior facility that provides a space or facility that provides social activities, health services and therapy for seniors who face physical, emotional or cognitive impairments. More importantly, adult day services, offer a respite and urgent resource for caregivers — especially caregivers who must work outside the home.

There are now thousands of adult day services nationwide, a growth attributed to changes in Medicaid which allow for coverage of adult day care services.

Although adult day services normally doesn’t include overnight housing or full-time residential care, some adult day centers can host seniors overnight or for several days. For many seniors, adult day service facilities also provides an opportunity to interact with peers and participate in activities.

Some facilities also offer more intensive therapy, rehabilitation and health services, including care for people with Alzheimer’s or similar ailments.
